Leukoencephalomyelopathy (LEMP) is a neurological disorder which impacts the central nervous symptoms (CNS).  Symptoms for LEMP appear within 1 to 4 years of age and like many diseases of the CNS there is no effective treatment.  The genetic test allows you to screen for the disease in the Rottweiler and Great Dane at an early age. Please see more in Test Overview below.

Test Overview:

Symptoms of Leukoencephalomyelopathy in affected dogs include: inability to control bodily movements, inability to judge distance, generalized muscle weakness, hypermetria, and exaggerated spinal reflexes. Neuronal examination revealed myelin breakdown, followed by swelling of the axons. Due to the progressive derogative nature of the disorder, affected dogs are usually euthanized. The symptoms usually appear at animal’s young age.
